Looking for the best places in Utah to stand-up paddleboard (SUP) and have some water fun with your family? We recommend trying one of these four lakes:
4. Highland Glen Park
Highland Glen is a great spot for paddleboarding because of the accessibility (it's only 10 minutes from JJ's) and the park amenities. Complete with grassy areas, sand pits, volleyball, slides, swings, docks and paved trails around the lake, Highland Glen is a no brainer when it comes to family fun. We like to hang out on the north side of the park where the grassy area meets the water because sometimes it's nice to not worry about getting all sandy! But the south side has the best views of the mountains. It's located west of Lone Peak High school off the Timpanogos Highway.
3. Manila Creek Pond
Located just 5 minutes east of the Mt. Timpanogos Temple and near the Harvey Park splash pad in Cedar Hills, Manila Creek is our favorite option for paddleboarding with kids because of the sandy beach and mountain views. Our kids could play for hours at this little pond! The parking lot is plenty big and even when we went on the Pioneer Day holiday it didn't get overly crowded. And by late afternoon the crowd died down and we almost had the place to ourselves.
2. Silver Lake Flat
Located up American Fork Canyon, this scenic mountain reservoir isn't big enough for motorized boats so it's a great spot for paddleboarding. You have to drive up a winding dirt road for a few miles, so a vehicle with AWD or 4WD is recommended. Bring on the adventure!
1. Tibble Fork Reservoir
Also located up American Fork Canyon, Tibble Fork has gorgeous scenery, blue water and family friendly options. It contains a somewhat sandy beach, a path around the lake, dog friendly areas, bathrooms and plenty of parking. Access points with the dock situated in the middle of the lake makes it perfect for paddleboarding. This is our favorite spot to paddleboard in Utah County because of the majestic mountain views! But the parking lot tends to fill up, especially on weekends and holidays, so plan to go early to beat the rush or head up in the evening after most people go home.
Tip: Plan ahead. Due to the lack of cellular service at the lake, parties should communicate before heading up the canyon.
We hope you have a great time on the lake this summer making memories with your family!
